Home

I'm having a serious bout of homesickness.
Home is where the heart is, right? I've got a lot of home.
Mostly, I'm missing Kip and Josh, who are basically the best people I have ever known.
I wrote a reeeeally long letter to Kip today, actually. And yesterday.
And now I want to be there when she opens it.
As for Josh.. how could one NOT miss him? The weirdest and coolest person I know.
Ho hum.

We Are Family. I Guess.

I. Am. Home. Thank goodness.
Spent a few days with my sisters and grandparents in my uncles' house. Yes, uncles'. Sadly, they weren't there. So that's a little awkward. Haven't seen them in years, but I've stayed in their home twice in the passed year.
I'd never realized how completely different my sisters are from each other and myself. Jackie is.. trying so desperately to be a tomboy and still finds it acceptable to act like a baby. Possibly because she IS the baby, and has two girly sisters. Also, she's impossibly rude, stating that "manners just aren't my thing". Grr.
Rachel is super quiet and and would probably be very polite if anyone could hear her. She shuts down whenever Jackie's in her rude manners and, as a consequence, seems rude also because she doesn't respond.
Despite my agitations.. I love them both so much. They're my only siblings who actually feel like they're semi-related to me.
[I have three families as a result of Dad's three marriages. I was the only product of the first, Rachel and Jackie of the second, and the other three of the third. I also have a step-sister from his third wife.]
Jackie fell asleep last night holding my hand, and I couldn't help but be so thankful that she was my baby sis.
Rachel and I have really cool late-night discussions on anything from It's Me or the Dog to the Jonas Brothers to school to smelly little sisters. Ahem. =]
Grandma and Grandpa.. crazy as they are, I know I'd been missing them, so it's good I got to see them this summer.
Grandma tried to convince me to go to a two year school and give up dreams of becoming a doctor.. can't say I appreciated that very much. She then tried to make it sound like my mom was pushing school on me and I didn't have to go if I didn't want to. Silly, silly grandparents.

All the while I was gone I got sweet little messages from Dustin [DreamBoy] telling me that he was patiently waiting for me to come home.
Things like that just make me smile.

It's In the Photograph of Love

I want to take pictures like the ones that get all over the internet. Those really cheesy, romantic ones that teenage girls splash all over their myspaces and whatnot. What would it be like to be that couple in the picture? Some of the most famous models in our culture are unnamed to most of us. Does anyone know the name of the sailor or the nurse? Well, yes, but not as many as could name Cindy Crawford or Giselle. Can you name one picture as well known of theirs as the sailor and nurse's?
The most powerful pictures are of unknown people. I want to take photos like that. And I want everybody to use them without thinking about who the people are, but imagining themselves in the photo instead.
That's what I want to do.

The Reason

I have this because my best friend [one of select few] has told me to get one. And so, of course, I had to.
Can YOU imagine resisting that face?
It's hard.

Right now I SHOULD be:
  • reading A Thousand Splendid Suns and taking notes
  • packing for fam trip
  • cleaning my bathroom
  • taking up a hobby
  • finishing letters I've started
INSTEAD I am:
  • looking at an old glass of water that I want to drink out of. a little.
  • this
  • listening to Fleetwood Mac
So, you see, not very on track. Last night I went on a date. =] It made me smile. Lots. Well, scratch that, I went on a mini-date extravaganza all day yesterday!
It started with me getting up at 8:40 [ten minutes before my alarm, guh]. He picked me up in a suit [quite possibly the hottest I've ever seen him] [literally and figuratively, it was in the 90's that day] and we went to school to take our senior pics. The guy that took our forms and money looked like Spencer Pratt.. I kind of wanted to tell him about it but didn't want to sound like a goober.
After that we went out to eat and harassed our waiter, named Luke. Obvious Star Wars references ensued. That's one mini-date right there.
And theeeen, we changed out of our fancy picture clothes and took a train ride where we learned that apparently, our town has a mascot. It's called a Smooney. It's so obscure that the park's website doesn't even put a picture up of said creature. We asked the old couple about it and they told us it didn't really exist. So.. disappoinment. It's [I think] seven different animals in one. That's mini-date number two.
Went home and he picked me up later to go see a movie in the park. So romantic. Minus the crickets and mosquitos randomly flying and hopping around. It started at nightfall, and I basically love any excuse to be outside at night.
Could spend hours just staring at him. Such an amazing guy.
Bored, yet?

Also, if you happen to have really scary ideas, be sure to tell them to me. Our school's having a haunted trail that is supposed to be super scary. Super secret too.. so you won't know if your ideas got in until Halloween weekend.
